Unsettled Weather Ahead as Trough and Cold Front Set to Affect Jamaica

Jamaicans are being urged to prepare for several days of unsettled weather as a trough and a separate cold front are expected to impact conditions across the island.

According to the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, a trough currently positioned over the western Caribbean is forecast to move across Jamaica late Tuesday night and linger through Thursday.

The system is expected to bring cloudy skies along with periods of showers and thunderstorms, some of which could be heavy at times. The most intense conditions are likely across northern parishes from early Wednesday through Thursday.

In addition, another cold front is projected to influence the island on Friday. While this system is expected to be weaker than the current trough, it is forecast to usher in cooler temperatures along with strong, gusty winds on Friday and into the weekend, particularly affecting northern sections of the country.

Marine interests, including fishers, are being advised to exercise extreme caution. Sea conditions are expected to deteriorate near areas of showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday, and again from Friday due to the anticipated increase in wind speeds.

The Meteorological Service said it will continue to monitor both systems closely and provide further updates as weather conditions develop.
