Rushawn Ewears, the Jamaican schoolboy whose heartfelt singing on his way to school went viral years ago, has come forward to firmly deny long-standing claims that he received US$1 million from international superstar Akon for the song.
The viral clip, which captured Rushawn singing a cover of a song originally recorded by gospel artiste Jermaine Edwards, spread rapidly across social media and touched hearts worldwide. Over time, rumours began circulating online suggesting that Akon had rewarded the young singer with a massive payout.
Speaking out recently, Rushawn Ewears made it clear that those reports are completely false.
“I did not receive any one million US dollars from Akon,” Rushawn stated, adding that the story has been exaggerated far beyond the truth.
Jermaine Edwards Breaks His Silence
Jermaine Edwards has also stepped forward to address the claims, categorically denying that Akon ever gave Rushawn such a large sum of money. Edwards explained that while there was international attention and goodwill surrounding the viral moment, the narrative of a million-dollar payout is simply untrue.
