Dancehall entertainer KipRich and his partner, content creator Kizzy Don, are mourning the death of their premature baby daughter, Miracle, following days of desperate efforts to secure advanced medical care overseas.
The heartbreaking update was confirmed Thursday morning after a family member of Kizzy spoke with the media, hours after the infant was airlifted to another medical facility in Colombia in a last-ditch attempt to save her life.
Miracle’s arrival came unexpectedly while the couple was in Colombia for KipRich’s work commitments. Kizzy had travelled with him after receiving medical clearance from her doctor, who indicated it was safe for her to fly. At the time, she was just over six months pregnant. Shortly after their arrival, however, she went into premature labour.
Their daughter was born weighing under two pounds and was immediately placed in an incubator in the neonatal intensive care unit. From the outset, doctors warned that the baby would need specialised care that was not readily available locally. Despite the odds, KipRich and Kizzy clung to hope, often describing Miracle as a fighter while sharing updates with supporters online.
As medical costs mounted and options narrowed, the couple revealed that the only chance for their daughter was transfer to a hospital in the United States. A GoFundMe campaign was launched, with the estimated cost of airlifting the baby and covering treatment put at roughly J$40 million. The fundraiser set a target of US$250,000 and, up to that point, had raised more than US$27,000.
In emotional live streams, the couple detailed the strain of being stranded overseas, juggling hospital bills while anxiously watching their newborn battle for survival. Those updates continued until the baby was transferred to another hospital in Colombia as an interim measure, as arrangements for further treatment were being explored.
Tragically, Miracle passed away shortly after that transfer. Further details surrounding her final hours have not yet been made public.
Messages of condolence have since poured in from fans, fellow entertainers and members of the public, many of whom had followed the baby’s journey closely and supported the family’s fundraising efforts.
